My inspiration on this painting was the shape and colour of the flower itself and also the
atmostphere when I saw the flowers which grasped my attention while I went to a temple
in Chiangrai, I met an elderly nun sitting in the temple offering bundles of day lilies
including incense sticks and small candles to visitors who wanted to pray worship to
the Lord Bhudda's image in the temple. I said to myself : I am going to paint these flowers
in a vase, it would be nice, and will remind me of something happening here. The painting
was exhibited at Neilson Hays Library in June 1998. A gentleman from Japan bought this
picture, Dr. Kobayashi Yoshinari.
